The Vow of Fasting on the Day of Arafat
We went on Hajj together, each of us tasked with responsibilities for the caravan. Haji’s quarters were closer to Masjid al-Nabi.
Every night, after I finished my duties, I would go to him. At that time, they would close the doors of Masjid al-Nabi at 11:00 p.m. We would arrive at the mosque around midnight, standing for one or two hours, gazing at the green dome of the Prophet’s Mosque until the police came to open the doors. Haji and I would be among the first to enter. Those nights, we prayed next to the Prophet’s tomb.
In 1371 (1992), during the height of Saudi Arabia’s heat, we spent days working on our assigned tasks. The scorching desert of Arafat was unbearable, and we longed for a glass of cold water. Yet, Haji had vowed to enter the desert of Arafat while fasting. Narrator: Haj Mahmoud Khaleghi Source: Musafir Behesht program on Maarif Radio
