May 26th is the anniversary of the Nakba, which marks the day when more than 800,000 Palestinians were expelled from their cities and villages to make way for the establishment of the Israeli regime.

Each year, Israel reacts sensitively to the commemoration of #Nakba day in other countries. In 2008, the Israeli representative at the United Nations strongly protested a phone call made by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, to Mahmoud Abbas. This protest was due to Ban Ki-moon's use of the word "Nakba" during the phone call.
